Widnes Vikings claimed a dramatic, late 10-9 victory over Bradford Bulls in their final regular season match at the DCBL Stadium.
After starting on the back foot, it was Widnes who took the lead with 16 minutes on the clock. Danny Craven put a grubber kick into the in-goal, which Jack Owens beat the Bradford defender to the ball to score.
That was the way it stayed until half-time, as both sides struggled to keep any sustained pressure on each other’s try-lines.
Bradfgord eventually responded 10 minutes into the second half. Danny Brough aimed a kick towards the in-goal area and Jordan Lilley got there first to score. Lilley then converted his own try to level the scores.
Lilley then kicked Bradford into the lead a couple of minutes later, after Widnes were pulled for a high tackle on Ant Walker.
Widnes levelled the match with 15 minutes left on the clock, Owens kicking a penalty after a late shot following a pass.
Brough then kicked a drop-goal after a period of sustained pressure, which seemed to have won it for the Bulls.
But a penalty for a swinging arm with seconds remianing gave Jack Owens the chance to win it. He nailed the 40 metre penalty.
Both sides will end their regular season campaigns next week. Widnes travel to Swinton Lions, while Bradford welcome Whitehaven.
