The RFL have announced three new rule changes ahead of the 2022 season, after a meeting between the laws committee.
The highlight of which sees the return of scrums. Scrums were taken out of the game as part of new Covid protocols when the game restarted back in August 2020, and did not return for the 2021 season neither.
However, with high vaccination rates amongst players, they have ruled scrums can return next year.
Another change sees the ball steal rule revert to how it was before the 2021 season. The new rule saw ball steals allowed if there was more than one in the tackle, but they had released themselves from the tackle before the ball was stripped.
The old rule will come back in, where you can only steal the ball in a one-on-one situation.
The third and final rule change is surrounding injuries. The RFL say they will adopt an NRL-style policy to ensure players can be treated effectively, and not encourage gamesmanship. Injured players will now need to be taken off the field to be treated.
