York City Knights have announced the signing of hooker Sam Davis for the 2022 season.

Davis, the younger brother of Warrington Wolves forward Matt, came through the academy at the Broncos, and had three loan spells at Coventry Bears before settling into the side in 2021.

His season was ended early by injury in July, after making eight appearances for the Broncos.

Reacting to the news, Davis said: “I’m buzzing. It’s a club that I’ve had my eye on for a few years with Fordy as the coach and with the facilities they’ve got. The general direction the club is looking to head is something I want to be a part of and, hopefully, I can be part of the reason we move forward.

“Having spoken to Fordy, he’s really impressed with the work Jamie Langley and Danny Ward have done with me down in London and he’s excited to coach me, make me progress and give me a few more skills and assets.”

Knights Head Coach James Ford added: “I’m delighted to sign Sam. He is a tenacious hooker who will provide energy and effort in abundance.

“He’ll add a huge amount of competitive spirit to our middle unit.”
